King Prawn

Roster / Marc Smeesters

At the forefront of the UK Ska-Punk scene, King Prawn built a reputation as one of the most innovative and entertaining live bands on the circuit. Their infectious blend of Punk, Ska & Hip Hop earned them two Kerrang! Awards nominations and wowed audiences from Tokyo to Tromsø.

Formed in London in 1993, the band toured extensively and released 4 albums before deciding to quit in 2003 with a final sold-out show at London’s Forum. Band members started new music projects, frontman Al Rumjen performed worldwide as lead singer for Asian Dub Foundation.

After a 10 year hiatus the Prawn were reborn in 2013, expanding to a 7-piece with brass section and keyboards. They played festivals and clubs throughout the UK and Europe to promote their 5th studio album ‘The Fabulous New Sounds Of...’ released on Cherry Red Records/Property Of The Lost.

Earlier this year King Prawn played their first shows since 2019, with Tim Macdonald (Capdown) replacing Nikolai Jones on drums. They returned to Boomtown (their 5th headline performance at this festival), delivering a heroically received skanking journey through their 30 year history.

The band have announced further UK shows for 2024, including a return to Manchester Punk Festival. The release of new material is anticipated later in the year, with further UK and European dates to be announced.
